ICTI-CARE Foundation
The CARE (Caring, Awareness, Responsible, Ethical) Process is the International Council of Toy Industries' (ICTI) program to promote ethical manufacturing, in the form of fair labor treatment, as well as employee health and safety, in the toy industry supply chain worldwide.
The ICTI CARE Foundation has been our client for seven years. We have completed many projects for them, and continue to maintain their website. Here are the highlights:
Information Architecture
ICTI CARE Foundation continues to add valuable content to its website. Over time, it became difficult for its varied audiences to find information that was relevant to their needs.
Well Web Development created a new information architecture for the ICTI CARE website. The left hand navigation organizes the content by topic. Within certain sections of the site, a 3rd column was added that allows visitors to quickly locate related sub-topic pages.
With the client's help, we defined the major audience types so we then were able to create landing pages for each audience. This allows ICTI CARE Foundation to address the needs of such visitor types as those who speak Chinese. We added links to the audience landing pages at the top of the pages so they are available from anywhere in the site.
Custom search also allows site visitors to find what they are looking for fast.
Website Design
ICTI CARE Foundation decided it was time to update its website design. Their staff had a few specific concerns, such as keeping the website easy to use and appealing to a multi-national audience. We worked with their international team via online meetings to achieve a design that their committee approved. We then applied the design to an existing custom content management system and made further modifications to it to facilitate that design.
Database Design and Integration
This website has multiple databases. Well Web Development integrated the website with the ICTI CARE Foundation’s existing ICP Factory Database. We built sophisticated search queries to allow visitors to quickly find the information that they need. The search results are presented in a fashion that is easy to digest.
We also designed and integrated databases for several other functions on the site:
Contributors: This database acknowledges the contributions of individual and companies that are members of the worldwide toy industry and have supported the ICTI CARE Foundation and its mission. Visitors may perform a simple search by category.
Date Certain: The Date Certain Database contains the names and contact information of companies that have committed themselves to purchasing toys only from factories that are in the ICTI CARE Process. Visitors may perform a simple search by country and by the first letter of the company name.
Retailer and Licensor: This Retailer and Licensor database lists those organizations, other than Toy Brands or manufacturers that, at a minimum, recognize and support the ICTI CARE Process. It shows their name, home country, category (Retailer, Licensor or Other) and the year in which their support began. Search results are sortable by name, country or category. All listings are shown in the results.
These databases provide useful information to website visitors and good reasons for visitors to return regularly.
We also built administrative interfaces so staff members can maintain data and perform website maintenance tasks on an on-going basis.
eNewsletters
Well Web Development created an email newsletter design for ICTI CARE Foundation. We also maintain their mailing list by removing duplicate entries and updating the mailing status of their subscribers. We work with the ICTI CARE Foundation’s staff to create new email newsletters on a regular basis and carefully test each newsletter before launching the campaign at the most effective time to increase email open rates.
